My name is Ed Justen. I play the saxophone.

Ed Justen plays sax and fluteIn the time I’ve been doing social media and online branding, I’ve kept under wraps the one thing that was a major part of my life for many years; I am a musician, I play the saxophone and flute. Need proof? Check out this link.

Although there are many reasons for hiding this fact, I won’t go into them here. All that matters now is this:

I’ll be happy to work with you on your project/podcast/film/art project/blog post/branding concept/whatever-you-need-help-with if you desire music and a saxophone.

Need some original theme music for your podcast? I’m pretty good with Garage Band, so let’s talk. Could your film or art project use a zombi sax player in the background? I’m your guy (although you’ll have to supply the make-up and costumes). You’re a poet and you’ve always wanted some sort of single instrument accompanying you at public readings and poetry slams? Sure, I’ll try it. Got some other crazy idea for a multi-media project? I’m all ears.

I write this because I’m inspired by John Herman’s (@johnherman) (http://www.johnherman.org/) session on Creative Communities during Podcamp New Hampshire (#pcnh). John has developed several video projects and theater collaborations, tapping his social media networks for inspiration, talent, and production help. Rather than searching for professionals to work on his projects, he simply seeks the help of people who are interested in the experience of artistic creation. The end result, he points out, always exceeds the sum of the parts.

The common thread among all of his projects; the relationships built during these projects have payed off in many ways down the road.

I have other talents also. I’m an amateur photographer and video producer, and won two national awards in 2003 as a newsletter editor. In 2004 I produced a podcast for six months covering classical music history, garnering hundreds of downloads worldwide as well as mention in the Times of London online. By day, I’m software trainer and workshop presenter. I’ll be happy to bring these skills to your table, just let me know.

Podcamp is a place to meet energizing people, learn new things, and possibly rethink your way through things you might have long ago dismissed as not worth your time and energy. By making my music talents available, I hope to pay forward some of that good karma, work on some great projects, and meet even more energizing and creative individuals.

Good stuff, Ed – keep that music alive. We’ll be in touch next time I’m needing a some slick saxophone playing.
