Ed Justen plays sax and fluteIn the time I’ve been doing social media and online branding, I’ve kept under wraps the one thing that was a major part of my life for many years; I am a musician, I play the saxophone and flute. Need proof? Check out this link.

Although there are many reasons for hiding this fact, I won’t go into them here. All that matters now is this:

I’ll be happy to work with you on your project/podcast/film/art project/blog post/branding concept/whatever-you-need-help-with if you desire music and a saxophone.

Need some original theme music for your podcast? (more…)

New Tools, New Ways to Connect

In the constant search for the ultimate social media nirvana, I’ve incorporated two new tools to make sharing and connecting just a bit easier.

Tumblring along

The first new tool, Tumblr, is a blogging platform founded in 2007. While not as extensible as WordPress, it offers various features and themes in a user friendly web-based interface. It’s great for photos, short text posts, link-sharing and video sharing, with separate templates for each type of post. Tumblr offers easy integration with Facebook and Twitter, allowing you to cross-post to both platforms separately or together. (more…)

Happy Birthday Google

September 28, 2010 in Miscellaneous,New Media Things | Comments (0)

If you performed a Google query yesterday, you might have noticed that the iconic multi-colored Google logo was replaced with a pop-art birthday cake painting, marking September 27 as the date of Google’s founding.

Not much ink was spilled over the company’s start 12 years ago, but  most will agree that the ascent of the Google empire has impacted our daily lives more then any other aspect of digital computing and technology (yes, even more than the iPod or iPad). (more…)

It’s an exciting time of year for social media types here in the northeast. Several events over the next few months will bring many of the country’s leading social media experts, wannabes, and up-and-comers under one roof, to discuss topics like RSS feeds, analytics, blogger outreach, link building, community development, and much more. All of these extremely affordable events function under the “Unconference” banner, deeming the tone of these gatherings as casual get-togethers where attendees are encouraged to walk out of sessions if they find them not to their liking. Lisa and Ed get a picture with Guitarist Marc Antoine

In all the years I’ve played music, I’ve never quite known how to answer the question “what’s your favorite instrument?” Thanks to dabbling in so many different instruments, I was always torn in my allegiance. The sax was great because of its many moods and voices, the flute gave me a legitimate spot in classical and chamber settings while providing excellent repertoire, bass allowed me to explore the soulful creative side of my musicality.

And then, there was the guitar. For twenty years I tried to master this versatile instrument, settling instead for a level of mediocrity that eventually forced me to give the instrument up. I’m probably the worst guitar player that ever made a few bucks playing the damned thing.

Fortunately, for smooth jazz guitarist Marc Antoine, this dilemma has never occurred. His website states he received a guitar at the age of 11, “which quickly became his third arm.”

Done testing for the night . . . .

May 9, 2010 in New Media Things | Comments (0)

This concludes my tests of the emergency broadca . . . . . . . .  I mean the Socialite plugin. it’s actually a cool little piece of WordPress awesomeness, and it just may prompt me to actually be a bit more loyal to my blogging strategy.  Once again if you’ve made it this far, I apologize for wasting your time, but to make it up to you, mention this series of posts to me the next time you see me and I’ll by you a cup of coffee (Dunkin Donuts only, and if we work together I’ll have to buy it for you on one of my breaks!)
